TRANSLATIONAL CARDIAC MR RESEARCH CENTER

Niranjan Balu, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington, Seattle. His research interests in cardiovascular MRI are focused on developing new MRI pulse sequences for vascular and cardiac MRI. He has developed fast 3D vessel wall MRI sequences for isotropic volumetric MRI of multiple vascular beds such as carotids, intracranials, aorta and peripheral arteries. He is also interested in successful translation of research MRI sequences to the clinics and has served as the primary MR physicist for several clinical trials including clinicaltrials.gov # NCT01178320 and NCT00851500, focusing on sequence design, establishment of MR imaging protocols, technologist training and quality assurance. In addition to vascular MRI, he is interested in identification of cardioembolic sources of stroke such as myocardial infarction and developing fast MRI methods for 3D late gadolinium enhancement MRI.
